Chocolate Modak recipe for Ganesh Chaturthi . fusion version of making modak. It is made from semi sweet chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk and biscuit crumbs.

On Ganesh Chaturthi festival, prasad (aka naivedya or bhog) is offered to Lord Ganesha first and then to us. The feast is served consists of variety of savories and sweets. Modak is the must in the menu as it is Lord Ganesha’s favorite sweet.

For making chocolate modak, no need to make outer covering and stuffing mixture separately like we did in fried modak recipe. The chocolate flavored dough like mixture is prepared and then made in modak shape using moulds. Hence this is the easy modak recipe that does not require practice or expertise of shaping the modak. All the work is done by mould.

This is the quick modak recipe that is ready in 30 minutes from cooking to shaping the modak.

I have used chocolate chips here but you can use dark or semi-sweet chocolate bar, chop it finely and use in the recipe.

1) Take milk, chocolate chips and condensed milk in a pan. turn the heat on medium-low.

2) Chocolate will start to melt down. Keep stirring continuously otherwise chocolate may burn quickly.

3) It will melt completely and becomes smooth and shiny.

4) Add graham cracker crumbs.

5) Start mixing it and halfway through add chopped pistachios.

6) Mix well and it will come together like a sticky dough. Keep it aside till it gets cool to touch.

7) Grease your finger and modak moulds using oil or ghee. Start shaping the modak using mould.

8) Continue shaping till you finish all the chocolate mixture.

Ingredients (1 cup = 240 ml)

  • 1/3 cup Milk
  • 1/3 cup Sweetened condensed milk
  • 3/4 cups Chocolate chips (Semi sweet or dark)
  • 1 ½ cups Graham cracker crumbs or crushed digestive biscuits
  • ¼ cup Pistachios chopped
