Food Blogging Resources

Here I am sharing the list of food blogging resources that I am using personally and have used in past. These tools, services, plugins I can recommend without any hesitation and these keep my food blog running.

As a beginner or advance food blogger, you might not need all of these tools. You may need few of them in future, so don’t forget to save or bookmark this page for later use.

I will keep updating these in future as I come across new thing which I have tried and loved.

Quick Access:  Building a site  //  Hosting  //  WordPress Themes  //  WordPress Plugins  //  Website Tools  //  Camera and Photography Tools  //  Making Money

Start or Build a food blog first.

First you need to go live on the web in order to start. For this purpose, Check out this complete guide on how to start a food blog on platform. is the one I highly recommend If you are serious blogger. I am using the same.

For hobby bloggers there are other free platforms like and Blogger.

There are many hosting services available. I have mentioned those two which I have used and I trust.

Bluehost: This is inexpensive hosting serving for bloggers who is just starting a new blog. If you sign up through my link, you will get good deal $3.49/month

I started my blog with this hosting service and used for more than 2 years. Their customer service is 24×7 and I had good experience.

Kinsta: This is managed WordPress hosting which is suitable for high traffic sites. We switched to Kinsta hosting when this site started receiving around 150K visits per month.

Once you get more traffic, your shared hosting like Bluehost cannot handle that load. So it is advisable to make a move to keep you site running without downtime and without slowing the speed.

Food Blog Design / WordPress Themes

Once your site is live, you have to make it look good. You can choose any from free WordPress themes. But if you are serious about blogging, I would recommend premium themes which are well coded.

Currently this site uses SociallyViral theme from mythemeshop.

Previously this site used the Genesis Framework with Foodie Pro Child Theme.

MyThemeShop: This my recent love for the site themes. It has wide collection of very good themes that fits for any kind of site. They are easy to customize and provide few different options. Their customer support is on point. This theme makes my site secure and blazing fast.

Genesis: This is the best WordPress framework in current market. Previously I was using genesis framework for this site and before that I was using Premium Thesis Theme.

Foodie Pro: This is food blog genesis child theme. Meaning you will need genesis framework and on top of that food pro child theme.

StudioPress: Check out Studiopress, you will find many good themes. Keep in mind that all Studiopress themes require Genesis framework. Choose what you like and what you need. My favorites are Glam Pro, Modern Studio Pro, Magazine Theme, Daily Dish Pro Theme.

Elegant themes: This does not require the framework like above. It has huge collection of good themes. They are easy to customize and provide few different options. Take a look and see if it fits your match.

WordPress Plugins

Below is the list of third party WordPress plugins I use and used.

Akismet: Protects your blog from spams.

VaultPress: This is the site backup plugin. The personal plan $3.95/month just enough. This gives the daily backups. But if you need hourly backups you can choose other plan.

Yoast SEO: To get the traffic from search results, install this plugin and optimize you site.

WP Recipe Maker: This adds schema markup to you recipe and also adds option to print the recipe. There is free version and premium add on available.

I have recently made a switch to premium WP Recipe Maker plugin from EasyRecipe Plus since easyrecipe plugin is not updating frequently to match current WordPress updates and their support is getting worst.

Accelerated Mobile Pages: this creates the AMP pages for your sites which is mobile friendly pages. It does not display automatically to the mobile viewers but only displays when person comes from mobile google search.

jQuery Pin It Button For Images: this adds a pin it button when hovered over the images. So readers can pin your images which drives the traffic back to your site eventually.

W3 Total cache: This free plugin optimize your WordPress performance by caching and minify options. This improves the site speed and in result improves reader experience. I was using is earlier, but not anymore since my hosting Kinsta handles the cache.

WP Rocket: Something similar to W3 total cache but not free. For this you don’t need to be that technical unlike w3 total cache. I have used this before but not anymore since my Kinsta hosting does the caching job too.

Combine the cache plugins with Stackpath (previously MaxCDN) and/or Cloudflare to make it more optimized.

WPS Hide Login: This prevent the access to your wp-admin.php. You know there are many spammers will try to login to your account and which eventually gives the load to your server and you don’t want that.

Genesis Simple Share: This plug in is only if you are using Genesis framework. It adds social share buttons at the top and/or bottom of the page.

Simple Social Icons: This helps to show the social icons in your sidebar widget. This way readers can follow you on your social accounts.

Widget Context: This allows you to show, hide the widgets on specific post or page on your site. I am comfortable coding myself so not using this but good one.

Website Tools

Madmimi: I have been using this for few years now to collect the emails and to send out the new recipe post emails. You can set up the free tool feedburner for the same. Earlier I was using AWeber which is more expensive so switched to Madmimi.

G Suite: I use this for hosting my email account. e.g. [email protected]

Google analytics: Free tool to track the site traffic.

Google Webmasters: aka search console. Track your site’s search performance in google and much more.

Cloudflare: This improves the performance of your site, protect from malicious traffic. Also saves your bandwidth which gives less load to your server. I am using the free plan.

CoSchedule: planning and scheduling the posts to social media make easier. I like this because you can even schedule the drafts posts which you have scheduled to publish for later time.

Imagify: It optimize your images and reduce the size. If looking for free options, ewww image optimizer is good plugin.

Onesignal Push notification: enables the web push notifications. It supports chrome, safari and firefox. Let readers subscribe through their browser and send them notification of new recipe upload.

Camera and Photography Tools

I have started with point and shoot camera. And upgraded it later as site grows and when I can afford it.

Camera: For food photography, as a starting I would highly recommend Canon DSLR and basic 18-55mm lens. There are many options as per your budget.

What am I using currently?
Canon EOS Rebel T6i
EF-18-55mm Lens
Transcend 32GB Flash Memory Card

Photo Editing
Adobe CC: I use adobe photoshop and I am very comfortable with it. Many people like to use Lightroom. It’s up to your choice and comfort.

Food Photography School: It is a visual guide that walks you through every step of food photography – from basic camera skills to editing like a pro!

Making Money

Earning income from your hobby or passion is one of the BEST thing.

There are many ways of making money through blogging like traditional advertising, Sponsorship, Affiliate marketing, creating and selling digital products and many more, you may have to google it to learn more. Amongst all, easiest way to start earning is showing ads on your site.

Adsense: Their revenue depends on the location and what kind of traffic your site is getting. Go ahead and sign up for it.

Gourmet ads: This is another good advertising service that I am using. It is specially for food or cooking, craft blogs. They will approve once you have enough traffic (10k page views per month).

This page contains affiliate links meaning we earn a commission if you use those links.
