This is our favorite homemade hot chocolate mix. It has much better flavors than store-bought mix because this one is made with real chocolate and without milk powder.
2cupsPowdered sugar (Confectioner’s sugar or icing sugar)
1cupUnsweetened cocoa powder
6ozUnsweetened chocolate
2tablespoonsCorn flour (corn starch)
Instructions
Add all the ingredients (powdered sugar, cornstarch, cocoa powder and finely chopped chocolate) to a food processor jar.
Cover it with a lid. Place a kitchen napkin over it (otherwise powder dust will fly everywhere) and run the processor until everything is finely ground.
To prepare a hot chocolate drink from the mix, heat 1 cup of milk (for 1 serving) in a saucepan over medium heat.
As soon as you notice bubbles forming from the sides, add 3-4 tablespoons of mix and whisk until everything is well combined. (It takes only 20-30 seconds).
Pour into a serving cup, add your choice of topping and serve.
Notes
Don’t have a food processor. Mix everything by hand. It won’t be smooth but that’s ok. You need to simmer the milk and hot cocoa mix a little longer as chopped chocolate will take some more time to dissolve.
Scalable: You can half or double the recipe as needed. If you’re making a really large batch then you may have to do it in batches depending on the size of your food processor.
Flavor it up: You can add vanilla extract or a few drops of peppermint extract after making a hot chocolate drink.
