    ❤️About This Recipe

    What is Panchamrut?

It is also known as Charnamrut or Panchamrit.

    • This is a Sanskrit name and if you translate it, panch means five and amrut means nectar (aka drink for god).
    • So it is made with 5 ingredients - cow milk, cow ghee, yogurt (aka curd), honey and candy sugar (aka sakar or mishri).
    • These five ingredients are taken in equal proportions and mixed thoroughly.

    When Panchamrut Is Made?

    • If you are having any pooja (Satyanarayan katha), religious festivals like Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, this panchamrut is a must item in your pooja thali.
    • It is offered to god as naivedyam or prasad.
    • Plus, in some pooja, it is used for abhishek (pouring over Hindu God idols).
    • After the pooja ceremony is done, this panchamrut is distributed among the devotees as a prasad. It is said that this must be consumed first after the pooja is done. After that, you can have other prasad or meal.

    🧾Ingredient Notes:

Here are the 5 ingredients you’ll need to make the panchamrut recipe.

Panchamrit recipe ingredients in bowls with labels.
    • Milk: It has to be cow milk (not buffalo milk) as a cow is considered holy. Cow milk is considered the next best thing after breast milk.
    • Ghee & Yogurt: Same as milk, these two must be made from cow milk or butter.
    • Khadi Sakar (mishri or candy sugar or rock candy): In the absence of it you can use regular sugar.
    • Tulsi leaves: These are used for garnishing. I had no access to fresh tulsi (holy basil) hence I skipped it.

    Significance & Health Benefits:

As per Ayurveda, when these five ingredients are mixed together in equal proportions is called Divya panchamrut. Divya means divine and auspicious.

It had numerous health benefits. It improves immunity, and enhances brain function and memory. It has anti-aging properties.

    • Milk represents purity and piousness. As per Ayurveda cow milk has a cooling effect on our body and mind. It enhances Ojas, the essential energy responsible for long healthy life, radiance, strength, vitality, immunity, and mental and emotional wellness.
    • Honey is produced by bees with absolute dedication and cooperation and symbolizes sweet speech and unity. It improves digestion, clears the complexion, and makes skin smooth.
    • Khadi sakar (aka mishri) represents sweetness and bliss. It has a cooling effect on the body.
    • Yogurt (curd) represents prosperity. It is a probiotic and improves digestion.
    • Ghee represents strength and victory. It has healing properties for the body and mind. A good source of Vitamins A and E with antioxidants.

    👩‍🍳Step By Step Photo Instructions

Here I have made it in a glass bowl and served it in a silver bowl. Traditionally panchamrut is made in a silver bowl.

    1. Take all 5 ingredients in a bowl.
    2. Whisk thoroughly until well combined.

    🥣 Shelf Life & Dosage:

    • Panchamrut has a really short shelf life of 3-4 hours only. It has to be made fresh right before pooja or a religious ceremony.
    • You can have only 1 teaspoon of panchamrut per day to get its maximum benefits.
    • Over consumption will cause indigestion or tummy issues.
    • People with diabetes and people with lactose intolerance should be careful while consuming panchamrut.
