🧾 Ingredient Notes
Here is the pic of the ingredients you’ll need to make delicious black bean dip. Most of the time I prefer to avoid canned food and use fresh ingredients. So I have mentioned both options below. Choose as per your convenience and preference.
- Black beans: You can use a 15oz can of black beans when in rush. I like to use dry black beans and cook black beans in instant pot myself.
- How to cook black beans? Wash under running cold water, then soak in water for 8 hours or overnight. Discard the soaking water. Take soaked beans and freshwater (1-2 inches above the beans) in the instant pot. Cook on manual for 8 minutes. If not soaked, then cook for 25 minutes. Drain the cooking water and use the boiled black beans in the recipe.
- Onion and Garlic: I have added both in raw form. So it gives a nice pungent flavor. If you prefer the mild flavor of onion-garlic then sauté in little oil until the raw aroma goes away. Then use in the recipe.
- Jalapeno: It adds heat and a little kick to the black bean salsa. To reduce the spice level, remove the seeds and white veins of the jalapeno and then chop. Also, adjust the amount as per your liking spice level.
- Chili powder: This is not the Indian red chili powder. This is American chili powder which is the mixture for few chilies with the addition of salt and other seasonings.
👩🍳 How To Make Black Bean Dip? (Pics)
1) Take all the ingredients into the food processor jar.
NOTE: Drain out all the excess water from the black beans and then use. Otherwise, the dip may become thin and watery.
2) Blend it until well combined. I prefer this dip a little grainy (chunky) kind. If you prefer smooth then keep blending until smooth.
Remove it to a serving bowl and then garnish it with chopped onion, tomato and cilantro.
💭 Expert Tips
- It is highly recommended that you make ahead of time and chill for at least an hour before serving. This gives the dip some time for the flavors to build and mingle.
- Adjust the heat level by removing seeds and veins of jalapeno. Plus, reduce the amount of jalapeno if you do not prefer the heat.
- If you prefer smooth, creamy dip then opt for a blender instead of a food processor.
- Get rid of the excess water from black beans by keeping them in the strainer for few minutes. Otherwise, the consistency of the dip may become runny or watery.
- It stays fresh in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
🍽 Serving Ideas
