❤️About This Utah Fry Sauce Recipe
This Utah fry sauce is first invented in Salt Lake City, Utah in the 1950s. Then it became popular in other fast-food restaurants in the USA. Now bottled Utah fry sauce is available in any grocery store.
Try making this sauce at home and you’ll never buy from the store. This french fry dipping sauce recipe is simple yet super flavorful.
Try dipping your fries in this sauce once and I’m sure you’ll not stop eating it.
There are many variations in making this simple dipping sauce but the main ingredients are ketchup and mayonnaise. The most recipe calls for 1 part ketchup and 2 parts mayonnaise.
🧾 Ingredient Notes
- Mayonnaise: I have used vegan mayo here as my family does not eat eggs. You can use regular or lite mayo as per your preference.
- Ketchup: Please use regular ketchup. At home, I always keep no sugar added Heinz ketchup. Once I made it with that it was missing the sweetness. So it’s a big NO to using low-sugar or no-sugar ketchup.
- Worcestershire sauce: Usually it has anchovies in it which is not vegetarian friendly. As being vegetarian, I always buy vegan Worcestershire sauce. It adds a nice umami flavor to the fry sauce.
- Red wine vinegar: You can use apple cider vinegar or pickle juice/brine instead. It adds a hint of tanginess to the sauce.
- Onion powder and paprika: They are added for flavor. Here Paprika is mild and not spicy at all. To make it spicy, use cayenne pepper or a little bit of sriracha.
- NO SALT ADDED: as other ingredients (mayo and ketchup) have already salt in them.
👩🍳 How To Make Fry Sauce Recipe? (Stepwise)
1) Take all the ingredients (mayo, ketchup, worcestershire sauce, vinegar, onion powder and paprika) in a bowl.
2) Whisk until everything is well combined.
3) The sauce should be thick yet slightly runny (meaning a dippable-consistency).
🥣 Storage Instructions
- In the fridge, store in an airtight glass container for 1 week.
- When needed, stir first and then serve.
- If made a big batch, then take out a little portion as needed and keep remaining in the fridge. If you keep the container outside on the counter at room temperature and keep it back in the fridge after use then it won’t stay fresh/good for longer.
📖 Variations
- Spicy: Add some cayenne pepper or some hot sauce or sriracha. If adding hot sauce which is already a little tangy/sour then adjust the amount of vinegar or skip. Taste first and see if you need vinegar or not.
- Barbeque: substitute ketchup with barbeque sauce.
- Smokey: replace paprika with smoked paprika.
- Other seasonings: Try adding garlic powder. Try freshly crushed black pepper for some heat.
