    Bread Upma

    Bread upma recipe - QUICK snack recipe made using leftover stale breads. This is one of our favorite snack since it comes together in no time.

    Here I have used a day only bread and removed the crust/edges. If you are using fresh bread, you can keep it. It’s up to

    Many times with leftover bread, I make bread vada, bread roll or this bread upma.

    I wouldn’t call this a healthy snack since there is more oil is required compared to other upma recipes. Also it is made from bread, meaning full of carbs. So I make it very rarely.

    Step By Step Photo Instructions:

    1) Trim the edges of bread slices.
    Edges are removed.

    2) Cut them into 9 equal pieces. If you want you can keep the edges, that is perfectly fine.

    3) Heat the oil in a pan on medium heat. Once hot add mustard seeds. Let them crackle. Then add cumin seeds and let them sizzle. Add chopped green chilies.

    4) And immediately add onions.

    5) Sauté them for 3-4 minutes or till they become translucent.

    6) Add boiled potatoes and mix well.

    7) Add turmeric powder, red chili powder and salt.

    8) Mix well.
    Spices are mixed.

    9) Add cubed bread and mix it immediately otherwise bottom bread will soak all the oil.

    10) Add lemon juice. Mix well. Sauté it while stirring continuously till breads get crispy. (it’s your choice that you want soft bread or crispy. Cook accordingly. )

    Sprinkle cilantro leaves and serve hot.

    You can garnish with sev on top, it tastes good.

    Serving suggestion: Serve this as a snack or breakfast.

    Ingredients  

    • 8 slices Bread preferably stale or a day old
    • 4 tablespoons Oil
    • ¼ teaspoon Mustard seeds
    • ½ teaspoon Cumin seeds
    • 2 Green chilies chopped finely
    • 1 medium Red onion chopped finely
    • 1 medium Potatoes boiled and chopped
    • ¼ teaspoon Turmeric powder
    • ½ teaspoon Red chili powder
    • 1 teaspoon Lemon juice
    • 1 tablespoon Cilantro or coriander leaves finely chopped for garnishing
    • Salt to taste

    • Add lemon juice. Mix well.

    • Turn off the stove.
    • Sprinkle cilantro leaves and serve hot.
    • You can garnish with sev on top, it taste best.
