🧾 Ingredient Notes

Here are some notes about the ingredients used for making mango mastani.

  • Mango: Fresh, ripe mangoes are preferable, but you can use canned mango pulp.  You can use frozen Alphonso mango cubes or pulp that you find in Indian grocery stores.
    • Type of mango: If you are in India then you can easily get Alphonso mango and I would prefer that. But here in the USA, I prefer to use ataulfo mango (champagne mango), a Mexican fruit. It tastes similar to Kesar in India.
  • Milk: Full fat whole milk is preferable to get a rich, creamy texture.
  • Sugar: Adjust the amount depending on the sweetness of your mango.
  • Ice cream: Simple, good-quality vanilla ice cream will do. But for more mango flavor, you can use mango ice cream as well.
  • Nuts: I have used finely chopped almonds and pistachios.
  • Tutti frutti: It’s easily available in Indian grocery stores.
  • Maraschino cherry: It is optional. It is used as a garnish.

  1. Absolutely delicious and here in Kerala we are on a Mango. Feast although the Alphonso’s coming to an end now, but never mind. Will make this tomorrow as treat for visiting daughters.
