Moong dal tadka recipe - This is no onion no garlic dal recipe. You can also call this a jain dal recipe.
For making this dal basic ingredients are used and this can be ready very quickly. For the tempering or tadka, tomatoes and few spices are used.
Even though this dal is made without onion garlic, still you will not miss any flavor. Trust me and give it a try.
This one of the healthy dals that I make at home regularly.
My in-laws are Jain and I learned this recipe from my mother-in-law. She makes this dal once a week and now I do too.
For light meal, I make this moong dal recipe. While dal is pressure cooking, I put the rice on another stove to cook. So both gets ready at the same time and within 30 minutes I have meal ready. I also roast the papad and sometimes make kachumber salad to go on side.

Hello!
What would be the measurement, method, timings and settings if I were to make this in the instant pot.
Thank u in advance
there are two methods for making it in instant pot
1) boil the moong dal in IP and then make tempering on stove top.
2) Make tempering in IP using saute mode, then add washed dal, water and cook on manual high pressure for 3-4 minutes.
you may need to add little extra water than mentioned in the recipe, Rest of the ingredients measurements would be the same.
Thank u so much 😃
I was out of garlic and onions and looking for a quick lunch: this was perfect! (And you were right: I didn't miss the garlic and onions at all). I used my Instant Pot (5 minutes on the manual setting at high pressure, then I used the sauté function to cook it with the second cup of water (Step #5)). I also forgot the jaggery, but everything still tasted wonderful.
Thanks so much for this recipe!
Glad to know that dal came out good.
Yes many times I do make dal and beans in my instant pot, it is very convenient
So delicious!
thank you
